‘Turmoil’ is designed to bring attention to mental health issues in the years of COVID-19. Over the past two years, we have been apart from friends and family due to the pandemic. Mental health is a growing concern for all of us. This sculpture comes in two parts but is tied together by leather, representing what we do to keep our lives under control in these trying times. Some of us are successful, and some are not. We all wish we could go back to normal (pre-COVID); unfortunately, we will never go back. We can only keep moving forward to beat the pandemic and bring our lives back together as they should be.

This is a representation of a lifeline. The line that cuts through the center of the wood is life as we navigate time with curves and twists in the road that sends us on a fool’s errand or onto a new life adventure. Starting at the top from birth, our road is twisting and turning to the bottom with old age where the road is less dramatic, we hope. The leather is the decisions and things we do to keep it all together. Even though our decisions are not the best course of action from time to time, they are what builds us and makes us who we are.
